How pure is the air quality in Panama? You are in one of the only 3 countries in the WORLD that are Carbon-Negative
Panama has reached a TOP 3 in the world ? It is one of three countries that are carbon negative. This means it’s one of the only nations in the world that absorbs more greenhouse gases (through trees, stubble, seagrass and mangroves) than it emits through human activities…
Panama is a country that has demonstrated a significant commitment to the fight against climate change. In recent years, the country has implemented policies and programs to reduce its carbon footprint and improve its environmental impact. This commitment has led Panama to become one of the three countries in the world to be carbon negative.
The achievement of this milestone is the result of the concerted efforts of the government and civil society in Panama. In 2015, the country launched its National Climate Change Strategy, which set clear goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Since then, Panama has adopted a series of measures to reduce its carbon footprint.
One of the most outstanding initiatives in Panama is the implementation of reforestation and forest conservation projects. The country has established a series of protected areas that cover approximately 30% of its territory and has worked to protect and restore the forests in these areas. As a result, the country has significantly increased its carbon sequestration capacity.
In addition to reforestation initiatives, Panama has implemented policies to reduce the use of fossil fuels in transportation and power generation. The country has invested in infrastructure for public transport and has established incentives to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles. It has also developed a number of renewable energy projects, such as the Changuinola II hydroelectric plant and the Penonomé wind farm, to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
Panama’s success in the fight against climate change has been recognized internationally. In 2020, the country received the Champions of the Earth Award, the United Nation’s highest environmental award, in recognition of its leadership in the fight against climate change.
Being a carbon-negative country is not only a significant environmental achievement but also offers economic and social benefits for Panama. Investment in renewable energy projects and forest conservation has created jobs and generated income for local communities.
If we have so many forests and we are eliminating all the CO2 we produce, how good is the air quality in Panama?
Even in the industrial areas of Panama City, you will have good air quality, but if you are in Chiriquí, the air purity and its index will always mark an “excellent”. Check out the air quality in real-time, right here.
If you currently live in Panama or are thinking of moving to our country, you can feel proud and happy about the powerful nature that surrounds you!
Besides Panama, which are the other carbon-negative countries?
Bhutan and Suriname. It is incredible that Panama is the only carbon-negative country in the Americas!!
